Hey guys. I borrowed my friend’s cam and was shooting his canon EOS 40D along with the recently acquired speedlite 580 EXii. For some reason it’s not firing when i take a photo. any help or suggestions? and yes the batteries have been changed.

Does it fire when you press the test button (it’s the one labeled “pilot” which glows red when the flash is ready to fire.)

There is an “External Speedlite Control” (might have a different label on your 40D body) section in the camera menu… one of the options allows you to disable the flash firing. Check to make sure the flash hasn’t been disabled.
