14 September, 2008 (11:54) | newsletter | By: Diarmuid

Photographer of the Year 2008 Competition: Results Round 3: Fire

The topic “Fire” proved to be a difficult one. The number of entries for this competition was quite low but on the upside the image quality of some of the entries was outstandingly high.

1st Place: Brian Heller, Philadelphia, Pa. USA. Brians image titled “Torch” stood head, shoulders and even flaming hair above the rest. An instantly eyecatching image and one judge commented “This is a truly beautiful picture and one of which I would be very proud. It is well exposed, well arranged in the frame and has an artistic aesthetic that is most appealing.” Very well done Brian, who wins a $75.00 Amazon Gift Certificate.

2nd Place: Samuel De Leon, Quezon City, Philippines. Seond place and a $40.00 Amazon Gift Certificate went to Samuel for his image titled “Observer”. As one judge pointed out; “There is a mystery and intrigue about this picture that is quite haunting. The exposure has been well handled and I particularly like the expression on the young boy’s face as he stares into the candle flames.”

3rd Place: Andreas Budiwidjaja, Jakarta Indonesia. “Ngaben Balinese Ritual” is the title of Andreas image and as one judge quoted “This image encapsulates well the ‘Fire’ theme for this competition. I particularly like the way that the author has filled the frame with the billowing flames through which we can see detail of the main subject, and how there is movement and textural detail in the flames”. Andreas wins a $25.00 Amazon Gift Certificate.
