Photographer of the Year Competition 4 – Earth
Photographer of the Year 2008 Competition: Results Round 4: Earth
Our theme for this competition seemed to have “unearthed” all sorts of ways of looking at the topic.
1st Place: Harjono Djoyobisono, Yogyakarta, INDONESIA. Harjonos image titled “Merapi volcano” attracted the most attention in this competition. One judge quoted “An Ansel Adams style very effective and dramatic, would be lost in colour.” Very well done Harjono, who wins a $75.00 Amazon Gift Certificate. This has advanced Harjono to first place in the overall competition table.
2nd Place: Ben Burger, Randburg, Johannesburg, South Africa. Bens image “All Cracked Up” brings the theme down to the bare essentials in his close up image. A very strong and graphic image. A $40.00 Amazon Gift Certificate went to Samuel for his efforts.
3rd Place: Samuel De Leon, Quezon City, Philippines. One judge commented “I love the graphical structure to this picture and the recession of the caterpillar tracks to the bulldozer perfectly placed in the top right hand corner” which pretty well sums up this well taken image. Samuel wins a $25.00 Amazon Gift Certificate.

In reality with only one competition to go there are only four contestants remaining who have a chance of winning the Photographer of the Year title. Harjono Djoyobisono has jumped into a clear lead and no wonder after winning 2 of the four competitions this year. But there is still a chance of three others nipping Harjono at the post.
